Yamoransa Model Lab 5
in Keybi, Ghana
The office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in collaboration with the Friends of Yamoransa Foundation (FYF), & Helping Africa Foundation (HAF)(helpingafrica.org) both United States based non-profit organizations, and coordinated by Implementers (www.theimplementers.org) a non-profit and TECHAiDE a for-profit social enterprise (www.techaide.global), has commissioned the fifth installation of the Yamoransa Model Lab 5 in Keybi, Ghana. The inauguration is on September 12, 2019.
The newest lab in a series of ICT labs using the Yamoransa Model consists of an ultra-modern 40-station Information & Communication Technology (ICT) lab (a.k.a. EDULab)(www.edulabforall.com) of carefully selected robust hardware and software technologies to improve teaching and learning of ICT & Science, Technology, Engineering, & Maths (STEM) subjects to help students pass the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). TECHAiDE has been the technology partner for all the Yamoransa Model installations and on-going support.
The Yamoransa Model links a community to our change-agents. We follow a process of design, in which the community explores needs. We then design and implement solutions. Through feedback, assessment, and learning, the changes can be made sustainable. More information about the Yamoransa Model can be found at yamoransamodel.org.
In addition to this lab, and different from the other four labs, is included a Makerspace open to the schools and community of Keybi. A Makerspace is a collaborative workspace inside a school, library or separate public/private facility for making, learning, exploring and sharing that uses high tech. This Makerspace will consist of a 3D printing, 3D modelling, Virtual Reality hardware & software, coding & robotics. The space is designed to help prepare those who need the critical 21st-century skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). They provide hands-on earning and help with critical thinking skills and even boost self-confidence.
It is the hope and desire of Office of the President, FYF, HAF, and all the other partners that are involved in this project that this new space will serve as an example to transform Ghana into an information-rich, knowledge-based and technology-driven high-income economy and society.
