Project Brief

As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility, CalBank planned to set up a 40-seater computer laboratory which will benefit not only the student population of Asokore SDA College Demonstration Basic Schools but also neighboring schools and the community as a whole. The facility equipped with 40 computers, a Projector and Edulab Premium benefits over 1,500 students from the community.

On the 31st day of March 2022, after a previous engagement with TECHAiDE, Calbank asked for a quotation for a 40-seater EDULab set-up in any public school in Koforidua. TECHAiDE requested a list of schools in Koforidua from the Ghana Education Service (GES) to make the selection.

Asokore SDA College Demonstration Basic School was selected from the list and that began the journey for the set up of the 40-seater EDULab in the School.

Stakeholders meeting for project timelines and deliverables

A needs assessment was carried out at the Asokore SDA College Demonstration Basic Schools on the 22nd of June 2022 to ascertain the needs of the school. On 2nd July 2022, an MOU was signed between TECHAiDE and CAL Bank to commence work on site.

On 29th July 2022, a stakeholders meeting was held at the Asokore Basic Demonstration School in Koforidua to establish a working relationship among the management of Cal Bank, TECHAiDE, Implementers, Heads of School for Asokore Basic Demonstration School, and the District Director of Education for Koforidua. The P.T.A. agreed to raise some funds to renovate the proposed block for the EDULab setup.

Commissioning

The Managing Director of CalBank, Philip Owiredu, commissioned the ultramodern computer laboratory at the Asokore SDA College Demonstration Basic School after its completion on 2nd October 2022 at a brief ceremony. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of practical ICT education for the country’s desired development. He noted that technology is a key driver of global progress and that Ghana must prioritize practical technological education to achieve its digitalization goals.

Each of the computers installed at the Lab has pieces of educational software for Primary and Junior High Schools to help with the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Teachers were trained in ICT, Mathematics and Science to maintain the facility.
