Project Brief

The Yale Alumni Service Corps (YASC) reached out to the AFS Intercultural Exchange Programme (Ghana) in search of a community for their volunteer efforts. In 2011, after reviewing the Department’s activities and visiting the town, YASC chose Yamoransa for their 2012 volunteer project. Some volunteers collaborated with local workers on the initial stages of constructing a two-story building intended to house an Information, Communications, and Technology (ICT) Center and serve as a venue for other community activities.

The project expanded beyond its original scope thanks to the generous support of the Helping Africa Foundation (HAF), led by Dr. Deborah Rose. HAF’s contribution enabled the completion and furnishing of the building.

The Center was dedicated on August 13, 2016, in a ceremony attended by U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Robert P. Jackson, YASC members including Dr. Deborah Rose, Japhet Aryiku (Executive Director of HAF), Kafui Prebbie (CEO of TECHAiDE and IMPLEMENTERS), Chief Nana Akwa II, Professor Kofie Awusabo-Asare, and Comfort Garbrah, one of the few female Assembly representatives.

This project is the start of the flagship initiative of the Yamoransa Model (YM) labs for Sustainable Development.
