Students Bridging the Information Gap, Inc. (SBIG) is a non-governmental organization founded in 2008 and based in New Jersey, USA. SBIG has as its primary focus to provide computer labs and related equipment for learning labs and age-appropriate reading materials for libraries which annually benefit over 2,000 students in Ghana.

Over the years, SBIG has collaborated with TECHAiDE to successfully implement ICT lab projects across Ghana. These initiatives have provided essential access to information technology in underserved communities, enhancing educational opportunities and digital literacy.

First project for Baptist School Complex and orphanages with TECHAiDE

In 2009, SBIG contracted TECHAiDE to help change the face of the computer department of the Baptist School Complex and orphanage at Suhum Trotor in the Eastern Region of Ghana. This was the first computer lab project funded by SBIG in Ghana.

2010 – 2015 Projects

In 2010, after the first project in 2009, SBIG had additional computer lab projects with TECHAiDE for 3 orphanages. These were the Egyam Orphanage, Good Sheperd and New Life Children orphanages.

SBIG further engaged TECHAiDE in the year 2012 to install an EDULab at Abor in the Volta Region of Ghana for the “In My Father’s House” orphanage home.

Also, in 2015, the SBIG tasked TECHAiDE to establish a computer lab for the “Offinso Children’s Home”. This project provided the children with essential technological resources, enhancing their educational opportunities and digital skills.

Recent Projects

SBIG came back again in 2022 to contract TECHAiDE to work on 4 more installations.

The Baptist School Complex in Suhum received an upgrade. A 7-seater EDULab installation which included Robotic Kits was completed in the school. Also, in Akatsi Abor in the Volta Region of Ghana, TECHAiDE installed an EDULab for students in the “In My Father’s House Orphanage”. This was a 40-seater computer lab which aimed to equip students with necessary learning software and improve their digital skills including STEM.

In the same year at Offinso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, a 20-seater EDULab premium was set up with an upgrade of 10 legacy systems for children of the “Blessed Child School”. Another 25-seater EDULab was installed at the “New Life Children’s Orphanage” at Ansapetu in the Central Region of Ghana.

SBIG understands that technology and literary skills are critical to any student’s education in our world today. With TECHAiDE as an implementing partner, SBIG continues with the focus on providing computers for learning labs, age-appropriate reading material and other related educational assistance.
